Hyatt's new-hotel promotion now offers double points — but there's a catch
Editor's Note
On Oct. 1, World of Hyatt replaced its beloved new-hotel promotion, which offered 500 bonus points per night on qualifying stays, with a double-points offer. However, the new double-points offer for hotels new to World of Hyatt is far less appealing because you have to book a special rate to earn double points.
Even so, the double points offer could be more rewarding in some cases.
Here's a closer look at Hyatt's new bonus points offer for new hotels.
Earn double points at hotels new to World of Hyatt
You can now earn double points on qualifying stays at participating hotels when you check in during a hotel's offer period. Specifically, you'll earn bonus points equal to the base points you earn on eligible rates and eligible incidental charges. The additional points earned through the offer are bonus points, not base points, and you can only earn up to 25,000 bonus points per stay through this offer.
Like before, Hyatt publishes a list of qualifying hotels on its website. Frustratingly, Hyatt's list now shows the participating properties but not each hotel's offer period, even though your check-in date must fall within that period to qualify.

But unlike before, you must now book the "New Hotel Member Bonus Offer" rate. If you book at a different rate, you won't earn the new hotel's double-points bonus. Additionally, members who elect to earn airline miles instead of World of Hyatt points aren't eligible for the offer.
You can earn the bonus on up to three rooms, including the room occupied by the earning member. Points will post within two to four weeks of checkout. A limited number of rooms are allocated to this offer, and promotional blackout periods may apply, so you won't necessarily see the rate for every stay at a participating hotel.

How good is Hyatt's revised new-hotel promotion?
To see how this works, let's consider a few sample stays. I'll ignore any Hyatt elite status bonus points since the promotional rate only considers base points when calculating the promotional bonus.
First up, a one-night stay this October at Hyatt House Portland Airport in Oregon. For this stay, I could book either the "Members Save More" rate at $164.10 (base rate of $140.78) or the "New Hotel Member Bonus Offer" rate at $177.19 (base rate of $152).
If you book the Members Save More rate, you'd earn 704 base points for a cost of $164.10. But if you booked the New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate, you'd earn 760 base points and 760 bonus points for a cost of $177.19. That means you're effectively paying 1.6 cents per additional point, slightly below TPG's October 2026 valuation of 1.65 cents per Hyatt point.
Now let's look at a more expensive option, the Park Hyatt Riviera Maya in Mexico. For this particular stay, the two rates I'd consider are the nonrefundable Members Save More rate at $1,091 and the New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate, which is freely cancelable until 21 days before your stay at $1,283.
Interestingly, these nights don't have any additional taxes or fees, so the rate you see is the base rate. But don't be confused by the "Grand Opening" rate, as that one won't earn you the double-points bonus and is effectively a more expensive version of the Members Save More rate.

If you book the Members Save More rate, you'd earn 5,455 base points for a cost of $1,091. But if you booked the New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate, you'd earn 6,415 base points and 6,415 bonus points for a cost of $1,283.
That means you're effectively paying $192 for an additional 7,375 points (and a more flexible cancellation policy), which makes the effective purchase price of these points 2.60 cents each. That's well above TPG's October 2026 valuation of 1.65 cents per Hyatt point, so this is a poor offer unless you value the more flexible cancellation policy.
As you can see, the value of the New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate will vary. If you're booking a participating hotel, it's worth comparing this rate against your other options. Just know that the additional points won't always justify paying more.

Bottom line
I'm admittedly bummed that World of Hyatt replaced its prior new-hotel promotion offering 500 bonus points per night with this new double-points offer. The problem isn't necessarily the earning rate. After all, in some cases, double points can be more rewarding. It's that I now have to book a specific promotional rate, which may cost more, and I can't earn bonus points through this offer when I redeem Hyatt points or use Hyatt free night certificates for my stay.
That means I won't be checking Hyatt's list of new hotels nearly as closely as I did before. Still, as the Hyatt House Portland Airport example shows, the New Hotel Member Bonus Offer rate can occasionally be worth booking. So, I wouldn't completely ignore it when staying at a participating property.
