Venture X Business vs. Business Platinum vs. Sapphire Reserve for Business: Three kings go head to head
Editor's Note
If your small business is interested in a premium card to boost its travel and spending, three options should be at the top of your list for consideration: the Capital One Venture X Business, The Business Platinum Card® from American Express and the Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business℠ (see rates and fees).
The Venture X Business is a great entry-level premium business card thanks to its reasonable $395 annual fee. Meanwhile, the Amex Business Platinum is great for businesses that spend a lot on select business expenses, such as shipping providers and construction materials and hardware. Finally, the Sapphire Reserve for Business is ideal for businesses that spend a lot on advertising and Lyft rides.
Here's our full breakdown of these three cards.

Venture X Business vs. Business Platinum vs. Sapphire Reserve for Business welcome offer
All three cards have welcome offers that present significant value to new cardholders.
New Venture X Business applicants can earn up to 300,000 bonus miles and a $1,000 travel credit on the card after meeting two spending thresholds:
- Earn 150,000 bonus miles after spending $40,000 on purchases in the first four months from account opening.
- Earn an additional 150,000 bonus miles and a $1,000 Capital One Business Travel credit (to use in the first cardholder year) after spending $120,000 total on purchases in the first four months from account opening.
TPG's October 2026 valuations peg Capital One miles at 1.85 cents apiece, making this welcome offer worth up to $6,550 (including the travel credit).

Meanwhile, with the Amex Business Platinum, new cardmembers can find out their offer and see if they're eligible for as high as 300,000 bonus points after spending $20,000 on purchases in the first three months of card membership. (Welcome offers vary, and they may not be eligible for an offer.)
TPG's October 2026 valuations peg Amex Membership Rewards points at 2 cents apiece, making this welcome offer worth up to $6,000.
Lastly, new applicants for the Sapphire Reserve for Business can earn 200,000 bonus points after spending $30,000 on purchases in the first six months from account opening.
TPG's October 2026 valuations peg Chase Ultimate Rewards points at 2.05 cents apiece, making this welcome offer worth $4,100.

Winner: Venture X Business. Its welcome offer is the most valuable, but keep in mind that it comes with a massive spending requirement. The Amex Business is a close second, given its bonus is almost as valuable as the Venture X Business's, and comes with a substantially lower spending requirement.

Statement credits and other general benefits
If your business is looking for simplicity, the Venture X Business is the way to go. Cardholders can easily get the value of this card's annual fee back through its annual $300 Capital One Business Travel credit and 10,000 bonus anniversary miles.
The Amex Business Platinum is great for businesses that spend a lot with Dell, Adobe, Indeed and ChatGPT. With the rise of AI in the workforce, many small-business owners will appreciate the chance to cut down on expenses thanks to this card's up to $300 annual ChatGPT Business statement credit.
The Business Platinum's up to $600 lodging statement credit is less flexible than the Sapphire Reserve for Business's up to $500 The Edit statement credit. The Business Platinum's credit is restricted to two up to $300 semiannual statement credits, while the Reserve for Business's The Edit credit can be used at any time of the year (as two $250 credits; increasing to four in 2027).

The Reserve for Business also offers more flexibility with its $300 travel credit, compared to the Amex Business Platinum's airline incidentals statement credit, which is restricted to one eligible airline of your choice. The Business Platinum's airline incidentals statement credit also can't be used to book flights.
Lounge access
The Business Platinum has, by far, the most extensive lounge access among these three cards. Even if you're only considering access to issuer lounges, Centurion Lounges have a much larger footprint than Capital One Lounges and Sapphire Lounges.

All three cards come with a Priority Pass Select membership, but the Amex Business Platinum also offers access to Delta Sky Clubs (subject to limitations), Escape Lounges, Plaza Premium lounges and other Global Lounge Collection locations (for eligible cardmembers).
Winner: If you're looking for simplicity, the Venture X Business. If you want flexibility with your travel bookings, the Sapphire Reserve for Business. If you want extensive lounge access, the Business Platinum.
How to earn and redeem rewards with the Venture X Business vs. Business Platinum vs. Sapphire Reserve for Business
Earning rewards

If your business makes a wide variety of purchases, you'll likely be best off with the Venture X Business. This card earns 2 miles per dollar spent on everyday spending, which is a great way for you to rack up a lot of rewards on all of your purchases.
While the Amex Business Platinum has a 2-points-per-dollar-spent bonus category, it's restricted to purchases of $5,000 or more and select business categories. There's also a $2 million spending cap each year. While this card's earning categories make sense for businesses that can take advantage of them, I wouldn't recommend going with the Business Platinum over the Venture X Business based on earning rates alone — unless you strongly prefer earning Amex Membership Rewards points.

If your business spends a lot on advertising or Lyft rides, the Sapphire Reserve for Business is a great pick. This card earns 5 points per dollar spent on Lyft (through Sept. 30, 2027), plus 3 points per dollar spent on advertising with social media sites and search engines (on up to $1 million each anniversary year, starting Nov. 15, then 1 point per dollar spent).
Redeeming and transferring rewards
All three cards offer fairly similar redemption methods, including gift cards, statement credits, travel through an issuer portal and at Amazon.com or PayPal checkout.
Transferring your rewards is the easiest way to get maximum value for them. Between the three issuers, Capital One offers the most transfer partners. Amex offers 20 and Chase has 14.
Which issuer's transfer partners are more valuable to you will come down to who you travel with most. I suggest paying extra attention to the partners that are exclusive between the three issuers.
For example, Chase is the only one of these three to offer United MileagePlus and World of Hyatt as partners. Meanwhile, Capital One offers TAP Miles&Go, while Amex notably has transfer access to Delta SkyMiles.

As of October 2026, TPG values Chase Ultimate Rewards at 2.05 cents per point when redeemed with partners, whereas Amex Membership Rewards are worth 2 cents per point and Capital One Miles are worth 1.85 cents per mile.
One key benefit to keep in mind is the Amex Business Platinum's 35% points back perk (up to 1 million points back per year from your selected qualifying airline). This may give the edge to the Business Platinum for some, but given it's restricted to one airline and only available for bookings made through American Express Travel, it doesn't move the needle much for me.
Winner: Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business for earning. It offers the most bonus categories and is the only card with elevated earnings on advertising and direct hotel and flight purchases. It's a tie for redeeming; the best card for you depends on your travel preferences.

Can I have the Venture X Business, Business Platinum and Sapphire Reserve for Business?
Yes. Since all three of these cards come from different issuers, there are no restrictions preventing you from having all of them at the same time.
However, I suggest prioritizing the card that's the best fit for your spending and travel habits, or the one with the welcome bonus you can most easily earn.
Should I get the Venture X Business, Business Platinum or Sapphire Reserve for Business?
If your business is looking for a solid premium card that won't break the bank with its annual fee and offers strong earnings on nonbonus spending, the Venture X Business is a great option.
If you want unrivaled lounge access or statement credits for merchants like ChatGPT and Dell, go with the Amex Business Platinum.
Finally, the Sapphire Reserve for Business is likely the right fit if you want flexibility with your travel benefits and spend a lot on flights and hotel stays.
Bottom line
These three cards are the cream of the crop when it comes to premium business cards. Any of them would be a solid addition to your wallet, or your business may benefit from opening more than one.
The Venture X Business is a great card for simplicity, while those who spend a lot on advertising, travel booked directly and Lyft rides will likely find a lot of value in the Sapphire Reserve for Business. The Amex Business Platinum offers fantastic lounge access and a great perk when redeeming points. Choose your card based on which of these matches your business best.
Of course, you can always switch to another card down the line if your needs change. Regardless of your pick, a premium business card will help you make the most out of every dollar you spend with your business.
