How to choose the best credit card for Walmart purchases

The best card for Walmart depends on how you shop and what kind of rewards you want to earn. Some cards offer a flat rewards rate on every purchase, while others may earn more online, through rotating bonus categories or with Walmart-specific benefits.

It's also important to pay attention to how Walmart purchases are categorized. Walmart typically doesn't code as a traditional grocery store, so a card that earns bonus rewards at supermarkets may not earn that same rate at Walmart. In that case, a flat-rate card could be the better fit.

How to apply for a credit card that is good for Walmart purchases

Applying for one of these credit cards works much like applying for any other credit card. Before you start, check that your credit score is a good fit for the card and have your income and other personal information ready.

For the OnePay CashRewards Card, you can see if you're prequalified before applying, according to information OnePay has shared with TPG. Checking your prequalification status won't affect your credit score.

You can apply for popular Walmart credit cards by using the apply links throughout this article.

Maximizing credit cards at Walmart

Shopping portals can help you earn even more on eligible Walmart purchases. Start with a portal that offers rewards at Walmart, click through to Walmart and complete your purchase as usual. If your purchase qualifies, you'll earn portal rewards on top of the rewards from your credit card.

Rates and eligible categories can change, so check the portal's terms before you shop.

You can also use a shopping portal aggregator like Cashback Monitor to find high returns.

Walmart shoppers have plenty of ways to squeeze more value out of purchases they're already making. The key is using a card that rewards the way you shop most often, then stacking those earnings with a shopping portal or other eligible offer when possible.
